Casting Call: Sam Cooke, Legend

We'd like Sundance star Michael B. Jordan to play Bobby Womack—long before the receding hairline, when Bobby was just a teenager in a band with his brothers.

Cooke was very close with his manager, JW Anderson. We think, The Wire's Isiah Whitlock Jr. (aka Mayor Clay Davis) could make a good Anderson.

Babara Campbell Cooke, Sam Cooke's second wife and high-school sweetheart, became the subject of scandal when she married Sam's protégé, Bobby Womack, shortly after her death. We can imagine beauty Antonia Thomas as the woman between these two soul legends.

Aretha Franklin went on tour with Cooke, Clyde McPhatter, and Hank Ballard when she was just 19 years old. Franklin fell in love with Cooke but quickly realized it would never work: Cooke had too many women around him. Franklin was a bit slimmer back then, so we'd like to recommend 19-year-old Keke Palmer. The actress and singer has just been cast in the TLC biopic and was once on Degrassi. These might not sound like great credentials, but let's not forget the greatest Degrassi alum of all time—Drake.

Finding a charming, handsome actor who can also sing is no easy task. Luckily for Carl Franklin, we've done it for him. Leslie Odom Jr. has a background on Broadway and musical theater, and a lovely, if a bit high-pitched, voice. We think he'd be a good potential Sam Cooke.

Alfie Enoch, best known as Harry Potter's Dean Thomas, is our first choice for Bobby's brother, Cecil. In a bizarre turn of events, Cecil's second wife, whom he was with until his death earlier this year, was Sam Cooke and Barbara Campbell's daughter, Linda Cooke.
