Casting Call: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego

We know that casting Angelina Jolie as Carmen Sandiego is painfully obvious, but the careers of Carmen and Jolie mirror each other too closely to be ignored: Carmen tracks down and steals ancient artifacts and jewels, so does Jolie's Tomb Raider character, Lara Croft. Carmen goes rogue and is hunted down by her former spy agency; Jolie's characters have meant trouble for a number spy agencies, including the CIA in one of her more recent espionage thrillers, Salt.

Lucy Liu has displayed her martial arts prowess time and again; whether through voice-acting for Afro Samurai and Kung Fu Panda or doing the ass-kicking herself in an epic one-on-one versus Uma Thurman in Kill Bill Vol. 1. Either way, the role of hotheaded Hong Kong-native Jules Argent would fit Liu like a glove (and she'd look awesome pinning her iron fists up against Angelina-Carmen).

A mere rehashing of the game show Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? would be a wasteful way of revamping a series. To make things more interesting, we've decided to throw in an antagonist featured only in the animated series Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?, Dr. Gunner Maelstrom, whom we think should be played by Kiefer Sutherland. Maelstrom has all the trappings of a movie villain: a hefty track record and a thirst for revenge that press on his pursuit of Carmen. Sutherland has proven that he can keep up with spies, terrorists, and no less, a jewel thief. The 24 star has a dark side only waiting to be unshackled by the right script.

Chris Evans' acting portfolio is already full of  fictional heroes of comic books and animated series. So why stop now? With such roles as the Human Torch and Captain America under his belt (or latex jumpsuit, rather), donning blonde hair, more latex, and an over-confident disposition would make Evans a frighteningly believable Shadow Hawkins.

Gabrielle Union is stunning and sultry, but don't let that fool you. Union is also the hard-ass that has never had a problem being taken seriously, which is precisely the type woman who should be leading the pursuit of the world's most notorious jewel thief: the Chief.

If it's jogging your memory to recall who Ivan Idea is, just know that he's the teenage genius responsible for the multilingual ACME Babble-Link Translator, the time-travel-enabling ACME Chronoskimmer, the ACME Get-A-Clue Case Pad, and any other gadget that may have appeared on the show. Anton Yelchin has that adorable geeky charm needed to balance the brawn and sex appeal of this cast of the rest of the cast (though we have to admit, Yelchin is looking pretty sexy in this photo). His performance as behind-the-scenes engineering genius in Star Trek was too believable and won't let him off the hook that easily, which is why we cast him as Ivan Idea.
