With The Amazing Spider-man coming up, Andrew Garfield is a bit of a buzz name. We would like to point out, however, the surprising lack of relationship films on his résumé. Garfield can play all the superheroes he likes, but everyone knows that the real star power comes from taking your shirt off and re-enacting a scene from Dirty Dancing with a moderately pretty to beautiful lady. We'd like to help Andrew along in his career by casting him as Danny, a role once played by Rob Lowe.

Joan Webber, portrayed in the film by Elizabeth Perkins in her first-ever film role, is another common relationship movie trope—the cynical, single, best friend. Zoe Lister-Jones did a great job of this in the otherwise mediocre Lola Versus.
To fill Demi Moore's old part, that of the female protagonist Debbie, we suggest Dakota Johnson, the daughter of some other people who were famous in the '80s, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson.

In the original film and the play, Kevin Hart's character has the unfortunate name of Bernard "Bernie" Litko. Bernie is pretty much what you'd expect from a secondary character played by Jim Belushi: a "schizophrenic, psychopathic, maladjusted social misfit who is clearly in the middle of a very deep homosexual panic." In short, had this remake been made 10 years ago, Vince Vaughn would be playing Bernie.
No ‘80s remake would be complete without a smug cameo by the original stars (we're looking at you, Johnny Depp and no-longer-famous man from 21 Jump Street). Perhaps Demi Moore and Rob Lowe could play Debbie's parents?
