Casting Call: The BFG

James Cromwell has had screen time in some of the best works of the past years—Six Feet Under, L.A. Confidential, Babe. Besides his obvious talent, Cromwell looks so much like the BFG, we wonder if he'd even need so much make-up—excluding the massive ears, of course. Looks to us like the role was made for him. Plus, he's six and a half feet tall!

The role of Sophie, the book's brave, blonde female protagonist (based on Dahl's famous model granddaughter Sophie) can be filled by a thousand Hollywood types.  For us, Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka, a.k.a. Sally Draper, fits the bill best. She's cute, she's blonde, and she can certainly act.

We know it's an unspoken rule that a British actress must play the Queen of England, but if ever there was a American screen queen worthy of the role, it's Meryl Streep.

Will Ferrell plays funny-grumpy more often than evil, but we think something about him just screams "nastiest giant of them all"—i.e., The BFG's Fleshlumpeater.

Comedian Omid Djalili, of The Mummy and Whoopi fame, has been criminally little seen in recent years. Though he's of Iranian-British descent, we think he'd be a perfect fit for the regal role of Sultan of Baghdad.

With those Scandinavian good looks, and maybe a new blond 'do, we think Viggo Mortensen, who's half Danish, would be perfect for the role of the King of Sweden. It's not the first time he'd return as a king.
