Casting Call: Bonnie and Clyde

Estelle Parsons won an Oscar in 1967 for her portrayal of Blanche Barrow, Buck's young wife—so whoever takes this role has big shoes to fill. We think Carey Mulligan would be up for the challenge, especially since this character would be substantially different from anyone she's played before.

Emma Stone has wry humor and sex appeal to spare. She's also got a bit of an edge, meaning that her Bonnie Parker would be a worthy match for Westwick's Clyde. And, as a bonus, she already knows how to do a credible Southern accent—see the trailer for The Help (out August 5) for proof.

Dedicated Texas Ranger Frank Hamer was the mastermind behind the ambush that finally did Bonnie and Clyde in. Jon Hamm would be ideal for the part—if he were only ten years older. So instead, we'll select Hamm's Mad Men castmate John Slattery.

Clyde's older brother Buck was an integral member of the "Barrow gang"—as well as the first of the gang to die after a shootout with police in 1933. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a strong actor who bears a decent resemblance to Westwick, so he's our pick for the part.

We want to see Catherine Keener as Cumie Barrow, Clyde's long-suffering but loyal mother—partially because we love her work, and partially because she looks uncannily like the Depression-era migrant mother in Dorothea Lang's famous portrait. That alone is reason enough to cast her in a period piece.

On Gossip GirlEd Westwick excels at playing a character who's sexy, dangerous, and damaged all at once. He'd be a perfect fit for Clyde Barrow.
