Rachel Comey’s Mad as Hell

RACHEL COMEY, LOOK 4; VENA CAVA, LOOK 21;
ERIN WASSON X, RVCA LOOK 12

Rachel Comey was “mad as Hell and not gonna take it anymore” as she seemed to channel career girl Faye Dunaway in Network. Pairing her classic, quirky signature prints—for the first time on denim—with silken blouses and cream-colored sheer knits. Comey was feeling the need to take a load of for fall and there was neither a wooly hat nor fur trim in sight. Vena Cava seemed obe spending the season in Woodstock, although if Buhai and Mayock’s urban sophisticate look was remeniscent of any of the county’s most famous ladies, it was of the Sarah Dylan variety (certainly not Joan Baez or Suze Rotolo!) Louche elements slouched in and out of the favored pairing of high waisted culottes and turtleneck sweaters as if to say “I’ll go to the campfire, but I’ll be wearing my platform boots.” Meanwhile, Erin Wasson’s hard edge was loosened ever so slightly for RVCA, swapping out her usual denim and leather mix for lightly hued silk and cotton maxi dresses, jumpsuits and crop tops. Amidst Persian rugs that covered ceiling to floor, the whole thing kind of made us feel like we were having a sleepover in long johns in a Bedouin tent. The essence of Joan Jett still haunted the room, of course, if only in the models’ loose mullets.
