Resort Trends: It’s Cold on Vacation

We don’t know whether it’s escapism, or a strategy on the part of designers to elevate what is typically just a half-season, but Resort 2011 has been full of wearable looks evoking cool weather escapes. Whether you’ll be jet-setting between countries or neighborhoods, the clothes from this season are not out of this world—and that’s meant in a good way.  Regardless of your destination, you’ll be able to find something inspiring and practical (relatively speaking). Below, three noticeable trends:

The White Suit (see above)
White painsuits, which always remind us Mick and Bianca Jagger’s 1971 wedding in St. Tropez, were a staple of many collections. Top looks came from Phillip Lim, Chanel, and Emilio Pucci.

Graphic Knits
For those traveling to the beach or desert (or just hoping to dress the part),  a poncho or baja with a strong graphic print will keep you cozy, Mother Nature’s mood shifts notwithstanding. Top looks came from Celine, Proenza Schouler, and Tory Burch.

Animal Instincts
Leopard is here to stay—the punchy pattern is not only a statement-maker, it’s easy to wear. It looked modern with lace and sheer inserts at Givenchy and Giambattista Valli, and with a fun flounce hem at Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony.
