Paris Day 3: Slim Aarons

DIOR LOOK 17; RAF SIMONS, LOOK 13, ANN DEMEULEMEESTER, LOOK 5

If things are feeling a lot looser this season, it must be because the starting point was the proverbial pencil. Let’s get something straight (pun intended): slim is still very much in. Kris Van Assche seemed to make both points crystal clear with his latest coat-heavy outing for Dior Homme. There were, of course, many skinny suits, but this time layered underneath long and loose Wall Street-appropriate overcoats, most refreshingly in gray. Raf Simons was making baby steps in the same direction, adding a double set of buttons to ultra-slim jackets, turning them into a sort of single/double breast hybrid. Simons also sliced into the traditional trench, creating a new multi-layered silhouette. Ann Demeulemeester’s signature proclivity for androgynous wispiness manifested itself into draped overcoats which effortlessly hung over abundant layers.
