First Dibs: Chanel Spring 2014 Look 30

Though most of Karl Lagerfeld’s art-inspired collection for Chanel was bursting with color, a handful of looks still suited the fancy of the more demure Chanel enthusiast (wasn’t there a time when all Chanel enthusiasts were demure?). Take this black number, for example. The high neck and knee-grazing hemline is unquestionably ladylike, while the exposed shoulders are unexpectedly sexy—perhaps they are the new midriffs? We’re pleased Mr. Lagerfeld sent one look down the runway that did not make our grandmama clutch her pearls in horror.
