Jean-Michel Basquiat: Now's The Time, Prestel, 49.95 USD

Despite his untimely death at the age of 27, Jean-Michel Basquiat made a renowned impact in the New York City art scene in the '70s and '80s. Beginning as a street artist who was part of the SAMO graffiti group in the Lower East Side before eventually turning to primitivist, abstract, and neo-expressionist themes, Basquiat was never afraid of exploring unpopular social commentaries and dichotomies. As such, this book explores Basquiat's oeuvre in light of its transformative power—whether autobiographical, critical, observational or tongue-in-cheek—and reflects on how his approaches and ideals continue to influence artists today.

Raymond Depardon: Berlin, Steidl, 80 USD

As the great composer Franz von Suppè once said, "Du bist verrückt, mein kind. Du mußt nach Berlin!" Translation: "You are crazy, my child. You must go to Berlin!" French-born Raymond Depardon certainly shares this mentality. Originally working as a foreign correspondent, Depardon soon found his passion as a photographer, photojournalist, and filmmaker, specifically while documenting the rapid changes in Berlin between 1961 and 2013. Everything from the construction and destruction of the Berlin Wall, famous political visits (JFK, Queen Elizabeth II), and the eclectic contemporary life is accounted for in Depardon's black and white style.

Don't Take These Drawings Seriously, powerHouse, 60 USD

The delightfully eclectic world of Nathalie Du Pasquier blossomed in the early '80s, when she became a founding member of the Memphis Group, a rule-breaking, post-modern design movement based in Italy. Between 1981 and 1987, she found herself in a constant state of creativity, creating thousands of drawings that ranged from small sketches of inanimate objects to intricately crafted metropolises. This is the first book to publish the results, which were previously sitting unperturbed in Du Pasquier's studio for 30 years. Want more? She's currently collaborating with American Apparel on a clothing and accessories line.

Juergen Teller: Siegerflieger, Steidl, 65 USD

Arguably, no one had a better summer of 2014 than fans of the German national soccer team, which triumphantly won the World Cup with great vigor and class. Juergen Teller, noted photographer and fußball super-fan, decided to chronicle the whirlwind event and track the progress of Die deutsche Fußballnationalmannschaft (the German national football team) from start to finish. The intimate diary-style book chronicles his month-long journey as he watched the matches in Germany, be it at a bar eating bratwurst, drinking beer with his students at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg, or triumphantly welcoming the victors home at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Siegerfleiger is no doubt a true love letter to the sport.

Painting Beyond Pollock, Phaidon, 79.95 USD

For those outside of the art historical and gallery world, there's an unfortunately common misconception that modern and post-modern art never truly recovered after the death of Jackson Pollock and his fellow abstract expressionist peers. Serving as an accessible guide to quickly dispel that theory, this book explores a plethora of movements and trends in art-including social realism in Germany, geometric abstraction in Europe, and the international rise of pop art and expressionism-from the '60s and far beyond, highlighting newer, and perhaps even more exciting, innovations in art.

Mario Testino: Sir, Taschen, 700 USD

Mario Testino knows a thing or two about taking a good photograph. Shooting the crème de la crème of society since the '90s (everyone from Princess Diana to Gisele Bündchen and Marion Cotillard), the Peruvian-born photographer specializes in just about everything, including portraiture and fashion editorials, as well as costume photography. This extensive monograph, however, focuses on his elegant and tasteful male portraiture from the past 30 years, chosen by the photographer himself. Bound in fine Japanese cloth and signed by Testino, only 1000 limited-edition monographs will be available for purchase.
