With the Oscars fast approaching, we thought we'd revisit some of our favorite interviews with the nominees—ranging from a brief profile on Glenn Close for our July 1984 issue to David Fincher's interview with Rooney Mara, from our December 2011 issue. So here you go: Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, Kristen Wiig, Wim Wenders' Pina, The Artist, Glenn Close, Rooney Mara, Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Gary Oldman, Kenneth Branagh, Nick Nolte and Jessica Chastain. We know that, alas, Drive was not nominated for Best Picture, and Ryan Gosling was atrociously overlooked in the Best Actor category, but as Drive still received one nomination—for Best Sound Editing—we decided to include our interview with Nicolas Refn as well.

Best Director: Martin Scorsese

The 2012 Oscars are fast upon us! Among the Best Director hopefuls is Martin Scorsese, nominated for his film Hugo. Like his fellow nominee, Woody Allen, this is not Scorsese's first Best Director nod-he's been nominated six times already and won in 2007 for The Departed.
