Superga Celebrates NYC Store Opening with Creative Directors Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen

Billy Farrell

Open-toed-shoe weather is upon us, but Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have given us reason to delay our pedicures. The Row teamed up with iconic Italian tennis shoe brand Superga to produce a line of urban-trotting tennis shoes that get you home by dinnertime.  The duo have infused the most basic of footwear with their signature upscale aesthetic, with linen and cashmere models available.

It was a project long in the making. "Ashley asked to get involved about three years ago, she told me she loved Superga," designer and distributor Steve Madden told Interview at the Superga party last night to fête their collaboration with the Row. "They're very demanding. I love working with them, though. We fight all the time, but we got a good product out of it," Madden explained.

The crowd at the Crosby Street Hotel was a decidedly gleeful (and shorter) one, owing to the rainbow of Superga south of the crowd's collective ankles in place of the stilts typically demanded for such an occasion. Undeterred by the early summer humidity, the Olsens arrived at the event draped in black and were joined by Lorenzo Boglione, Jennifer Green, Jacob Brown, Phillip Bloch, Charlotte Kidd, Drew Elliot, and Filipa Fino. Guests went home with (and in our case, walked home in) a pair of Superga's classic white model.
