Beginning last Wednesday, an international crowd from New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, and more descended upon the Caribbean island of Saint Maarten for the first year of SXMusic Festival. For five days, DJs and producers overtook venues and beaches throughout the island for a series of day, night, after, and sunrise parties. Guests traversed from Palm Beach, where acts like Patrick Topping, Jamie Jones, and Adriatique commanded the unending dance scene through rain and shine, to the rooftop venue Sky Beach and nightclubs Le Shore and Tantra, at which everyone continued moving to sets by the likes of Blond:ish, Shaun Reeves, and Guy Gerber, among many others.
Two standouts of the festival included a VIP jungle party, hosted on Saturday afternoon at the picturesque Loterie Farm where DJs and their turntables resided in a treehouse, and a sunrise party soundtracked exclusively by Lee Burridge at Layla's Beach Bar on Sunday morning. During the rare moments when downtime was found, attendees and artists alike saught solace (and occasionally sleep) at the family-owned Hôtel Mercure, situated on the calming Simpson Bay Lagoon. As one guest from Holland said en route to the airport Sunday afternoon, "This was the nicer version of Burning Man. I'll be back next year."
With a special thanks to The Impossible Project, we documented SXMusic Festival with Polaroids.
