The festivities were already well under way at Doyers Street underground boîte Pulqueria—the DJ was dancing; Waris Ahluwalia and Ryan McGinley were making laid-back conversation with fellow partygoers; photographer Billy Farrell's dad was amusing a blonde—when Tilda Swinton arrived. Everyone in the room knew it; as she swept past, a whirl of excitement swept with her. And with a fetching smile that erased "Oscar" from the lips of anyone who'd have dared to mention it, Swinton certainly had plenty to celebrate: everyone (and we mean everyone) had carved a space out of their Saturday nights to celebrate her boyfriend, artist Sandro Kopp, who's just opened a new exhibition, "There you are," not so far away at Lehmann Maupin on Chrystie Street.
