Last night, performance artists and art lovers alike gathered at the Czech Center New York to celebrate the opening of the cross-cultural, multimedia group exhibition "Youth Explosion: The New Bohemia." The show, which is curated by Marie Tomanova, transformed the space into a vibrant performance ground. It features an array of artists informed by youth culture, including Sessa Englund, Grace Miceli, Maya Fuhr, India Salvor Menuez, Claire Christerson, Michael Bailey-Gates, Alexandra Marzella, Ethan James Green, and Interview contributor Thomas Whiteside. In addition to Alt Space’s pop-up shop, performances by artists such as Legacy Fatale and RAFiA took place throughout the evening. Go!Push Pops' ceremonial presentation involved papayas and the room collectively chanting, while artist Nicky Ottav's piece was more solemn, inviting guests to bring flowers and sit at his alter to honor of the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando. The space will host additional performances on August 4th, the show's closing night.
With a special thanks to The Impossible Project, our photographer was there to capture the evening.
