New York Minute, curated by Deitch Projects director Kathy Grayson and organized by the DEPART Foundation, hit the MACRO Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome with a bolt of community-tinged creative energy at the September 19 opening. Thousands of people of all ages queued for hours to see the colorful show of 60 artists related to New York's downtown art scene at MACRO FUTURE, which occupies a former slaughterhouse in Rome's renegade Testaccio neighborhood. The reception was followed by a performance by A.R.E. Weapons and a DJ set by artist and Santos' Party House partner Spencer Sweeney. Next up was the after-party at the Big Bang club. Intended to inspire Rome's contemporary art scene, New York Minute has energy to spare.—Paul Laster
