Liberatum Berlin

It's been a July for Berlin. At the beginning of the month, the German capital (with the help of the Soho House Group) hosted the first ever European Liberatum festival, a conference of creative minds. Kim Cattrall and James Franco presented their new films and gave talks on acting and directing. English model and actress Lily Cole recited one of Wole Soyinka's poems, while the Nobel Laureate himself held court and talked about the burden of winning the Nobel and political correctness. Stephen Frears gave an insight into independent filmmaking; Jonas Akerlund gave a talk on his techniques and ideas behind music videos such as "Girl Panic" by Duran Duran. Other attractions included a nude performanc piece by Rossy de Palma and cellist David Fernandez, a performance by the Canadian band Azari and III, and sword swallowing by Jewels Good.
