The first issue of The Gentlewoman, the new bi-annual fashion magazine for the gentler sex, launched tonight in Paris's beautiful Hôtel de Clermont-Tonnerre in the heart of the Left Bank's 7th arrondissement. The magazine is the latest from gentlemen Gert Jonkers and Jop Van Bennekom, the Amsterdam-based publishers of Fantastic Man and its partner pink sheet Butt. But the Gentlewoman team is largely English, with Creative Direction in Amsterdam from Van Bennekom and English editing from the charming Penny Martin, a professor and curator, and the former Editor-in-Chief of SHOWstudio, and Fashion Director Jonathan Kaye. Céline Creative Director Phoebe Philo is The Gentlewoman's first cover girl with photos by David Sims and an interview by Penny Martin. Although Philo isn't our idea of a really "gentle" woman, but we'll buy it!—REBECCA VOIGHT
