Despite having spilled a little guacamole on his brand new Armani suit, The Drums' Myles Matheny was in remarkably good spirits backstage at the opening of Emporio Armani's new flagship store on Madison Avenue. The band has had a good year, after all: their well-received sophomore album, Portamento, came out just over a year ago, and since then, they've become the kind of band who plays things like Spin parties (with Chairlift at Brooklyn Bowl last month) and Armani openings. "I think just having the album come out, and the tours that we've been on, have been pretty rewarding. We played Primavera this year, which was an incredible show," Matheny said.
Among those who came out to catch their set (along with Ladyhawke and Skylar Grey) were a hodgepodge of fashionable folk: Carine Roitfeld, Stephen Gan, Harry Brant and Peter Brant Jr., Paris Hilton, Olivier Zahm, Rachel Chandler Guinness, Angela Lindvall, Anna Dello Russo, and many more. Thankfully, the new flagship store is palatial, and there was more than enough room—and hors d'oeuvres—to go around.
And as for Matheny's stain: "Someone told me if you put salt on it..." he said, prompting some quick Googling. A waiter arrived, bearing salt, and soon enough, it was good as new. —Alexandria Symonds
