amfAR's Third Annual Inspiration Gala

"Hey, Kenneth, how are you?," Marc Jacobs asked Kenneth Cole when the two designers ran into one another on the red carpet for last night's amfAR Inspiration Gala. "I saw you the other night—where was it?" Jacobs said, pausing to think.

"Oh, at the CFDA," he recalled.

Surely Monday's awards had been a night to remember for Jacobs, as host Seth Meyers had goofed on Jacobs' own Met Gala attire—a sheer black lace Comme Des Garçons gown—by donning it himself. "I think Seth certainly looked great on the stage, and I think he knows that is probably where he should stay," Cole acknowledged when we asked him what he thought of Meyers' outfit. "Marc had a little more courage to go further."

Cole, of course, is a longtime supporter of amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, and is its current Chairman of the Board. Last night's event at the New York Public Library, which raised nearly $1 million, honored singer Fergie and Marc Jacobs International President Robert Duffy, each of whom received the Piaget Award of Inspiration.

In addition to dinner and award presentations, the night's festivities also included a runway show produced by Josh Wood Productions, featuring 65 top male models as well as Olympian Greg Louganis and rugby star Ben Cohen, as well as a performance by Scissor Sisters. When we asked Sisters' Jake Shears whether he felt especially intimidated to perform in front of Fergie—not to mention Debbie Harry, who was in the audience—he demurred. "It's actually intimidating doing this, is almost the thing that scares me. I can get onstage just fine. We've got a lot of confidence; I love playing parties like this," Shears, who sported a fetching if eccentric Thom Browne pant/short hybrid, assured us. "We've been wanting to do [an amfAR event] for years and have never been in the city when it's been going on. It really worked out perfect. Josh [Wood] is one of my best friends, and we're really happy about it."

Joining in the fun were Mark Sanchez, Hilary Swank, Francisco Costa, Rose McGowan, Simon Doonan, Jonathan Adler, Kelly Bensimon, and many more.
