Exclusive EP Premiere: ‘Gold Dust,’ Sykes

In the music video for “Gold Dust” by the indie-electro band Sykes, three little children ride their bicycles down a country road. In an instant, the fully-grown band members replace the tots and the setting shifts to an urban street. “We’re like gold dust, that you can’t touch,” Julia Sykes, the band’s lead vocalist, sings dreamily. “We’ll travel the world and no one will know.”

Based in South London, in addition to Julia, Sykes consists of Will Grid Brown on drums and Kristian Taylor on lead guitar and bass. “Gold Dust” is the titular track off of the band’s new EP produced by Cam Blackwood, which you can stream exclusively above. With upbeat guitar chords and a catchy melody, the song captures the carefree nostalgia of childhood. This optimistic message, along with the glittering ambience of the single, resonates throughout the EP. “‘Gold Dust’ was only written two weeks before we went into the studio,” the band explains. “But we believed in it so much that it set the tone for the rest of the record.”

GOLD DUST COMES OUT OCTOBER 20 AND IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER. FOR MORE ON SYKES, VISIT THE BAND’S FACEBOOK PAGE.
