Casting Call: Black Mass
In which we suggest who should star in the next big adaptation, remake, or historical film.
Currently in development is a new Whitey Bulger biopic, Black Mass, based on the book Black Mass: The Irish Mob, The FBI and A Devil’s Deal. As you can imagine, the book focuses on Whitey’s time as an FBI informer under his handler, John M. Connolly Jr, controversial relationship with the Feds. If this is all sounding like the plot of The Departed, that is because it is pretty much the plot of The Departed: Southie boy-turned-cop professional relationship with Southie mob kingpin becomes a friendship, things turn out badly for everyone. But, mafia films are always fun and we interested to learn more about the early days of Bulger’s career of crime.
