I asked Liz Pugh, International Celebrity Makeup Artist for Rimmel London, to read the top fall trends from the London runways and translate them for the masses: "I always find the shows inspirational," she said. "I always love Dior, Galliano, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Jonathan Saunders, YSL, Gareth Pugh, and Prada. I also take a lot of my inspiration from singers like Lady Gaga, Natasha from Bat for Lashes, and La Roux. It is great to see singers getting more directional. And, of course, a lot of inspiration comes from the streets of London–these girls are doing it for themselves!" Below, some of Liz's favorite looks, along with tips on how to recreate them.
Trend: Strong Eyebrows
"Strong eyebrows were everywhere on the runways for fall: Blumerine, Chloe, Cavalli, D&G, and YSL.
If you don't have an eyebrow pencil try the trend by brushing a little brown eyeshadow through the brows in the direction they grow. You can use a brow brush or an old clean mascara wand for this. It gives a much softer look than an eyebrow pencil will give. Chose a shade close to the natural color of the brows so they don't look too heavy, it will give the most flattering look.
Alternately, try something more daring. There are lots of bleached brows around this season. I love this, though it can look a little alien! Bleached brows look great on blondes when you lift the color a little. You don't have to bleach to the extent seen on the runways–a little will really open the face. I use facial hair bleach to get this effect." (PHOTO: BALMAIN)
Trend: Blue Eyeshadow
"Blue shadow is big for fall and was seen on the runways of Marc Jacobs and Nicole Miller. Wear it on its own or layer over a black shadow for a darker, smokier blue. This season is all about layering colors for the desired effect.
A great way to wear this is to apply some blue shadow over your eyelid, then blend into the socket, blending upwards and outwards. You can also add a little shadow underneath the eye and finish with lots of mascara.
Blush can be kept simple, just a little shading under the cheekbones, another big trend for fall. Finish with a nude lip by apply a little foundation or concealer over the lip, to tone down any natural pink." (PHOTO: GARETH PUGH)
Trend: Flushed Cheeks
"Pretty flushed cheeks are also a big trend for fall. A pinky blush will give you instant health and vitality, which is good for when the tan fades. This was seen on the runways of DKNY, Carolina Herrera, D&G, Kenzo and Etro.
Keep it modern in application by applying high on the apple of your cheeks and blending upwards towards the temple. This is more modern than applying on the apple of the cheeks.
You can soften the strong eye trend using a pretty, illuminating blush, rather than sculpting the cheeks, which can tend to look more gothic. A pretty pink cheek immediately makes any look more feminine."
Trend: Colorful Modern '80s
"Think Culture Club, Cyndi Lauper and Flock of Seagulls for this iconic bright-eyed look that was seen on the runways of Marc Jacobs and Gucci.
Keep skin matte and flawless using Rimmel London's Stay Matte Clarifying Matte Foundation and go with a nude lip to make eyes the center of attention. To illuminate eyes, apply a pink shade over the entire lid to the brown bone. Softly line the lashes with a charcoal hue before finishing with a highlight under the brow. Add lots of eyeliner to give the look an edge, such as Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer, in Purple Shock and Emerald Sparkle.

Finish with a coat of Sexy Curves Waterproof Mascara to create the impression of a false lash. Complete the look with Lasting Finish Kiss and Stay Lip Gloss in a neutral shade like Lustrous Nude, or go for Lasting Finish Intense Wear Lipstick in Amethyst Shimmer, Coffee Shimmer, Pink Shimmer, or Metallic Shimmer for a trendier effect." Trend: Updated Retro Glam
"Don't be afraid to break the rules–London girls love to pair a dark-rimmed eye with a strong lip. This look was seen in the Moschino, Armani, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana and Gaultier shows.
A flawless complexion is a must for this look. Rim eyes with Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Black, then add a sultry edge with Colour Rush Eyeshadow Quad in Smoky Noir. When I use this palette, I love to add a dot of the silver shade on the inner corner of the eye to make eyes pop.
Sculpt the cheeks with a little bronzer blended under the cheekbones, then finish with a bold lip.
Start by lining lips with 1000 Kisses Lip Liner–it's all about precision this season–before layering on a matching shade of lipstick like Lasting Finish Intense Wear Lipstick in Red Hot, Alarm, or Bordeaux, which are perfect for fall." (PHOTO: RICK OWENS)
Trend: All About the Eyes
"Strong eyes were seen on the runways of Dior, Gaultier, Galliano, Armani, Cavalli and Dsquared.
Try applying Special Eyes Eye Liner Pencil in Black Magic, starting from the inner corner along the top lashline and getting thicker at the outer edge. Be sure to exaggerate the shape, extending outwards and upwards. To make it more modern for fall, round off the outer edge using a q-tip dipped in a little makeup remover. This look also works well with some color.
If you want to go for the glitz, apply Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer in precious gold over the entire lid, up to the brow bone, then apply the gold shade from the Colour Rush Eyeshadow Quad in Bronzed. Line the inner rim of eyes with black before blending a little of the darkest shade from the palette into the lower lashes.
Finish by coating top and bottom lashes with mascara. The molten eye looks great with a strong dark matte lip to contrast against the glossy eye. Try 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in Wine over the entire lip–no need for lipstick. Your lips should be silky smooth to start off with when creating this look, so exfoliate them with a toothbrush, add some lip balm, blot, then apply the pencil."
