Rob Pruitt Cruises With Jimmy Choo

“Jimmy Choo, is that cockney rhyming slang for shoe, or some sort of shoe company?” Is one of the best questions posed to us by a person who shall remain nameless. We sort of wish it was both and implore that those in charge of cockney rhyming slang, the good people at the Oxford English Dictionary perhaps, consider adding it to the slang list.

It’s been a tumultuous year for the London-based brand—co-founder and CCO Tamara Mellon and CEO Joshua Shulman both exited the company last November—but it seems that the company is ploughing on full-force. Choo has just announced their collaboration with Rob Pruitt on a capsule collection for Cruise 2013. Pruitt is not the first artist to work with Choo—Nan Goldin worked on the Cruise 2012 “Icons” collection, Marilyn Minter on the Cruise 2011 “Crystal” collection, and Richard Phillips on the SS 2008 collection.

Nan Goldin for the Cruise 12 Icons Collection, Marilyn Minter for the Cruise 11 Crystal Collection, and Richard Phillips for the Spring Summer 2008 Collection. “We were captivated by Pruitt’s energy… the festive exuberance of his prints and materials,” explained Creative Directors Sandra Choi and Simon Holloway. We rather excited for this collaboration, on the one hand Pruitt’s is a very fitting choice for the company that once managed to make us lust an over electric blue or hot fuchsia, leopard-print, pony skin “Odette” bag. What a pair.

Jimmy Choo’s Cruise 2013 collection will be available online and at Jimmy Choo boutiques in November 2012.
