Cynthia Rowley's Top Knot

A while back, I wrote a post about the side braid becoming the new gym bun. Well, it looks like the knot is taking over as both gym bun and night-on-the-town 'do. The other day at Cynthia Rowley's Resort 2011 collection in New York, hair guru Rodney Cutler of Cutler/Redken Salon debuted a fashionable and ferocious "top knot" on the heads of the models (above). The inspiration was a style that could have been crafted by the girls for a day lounging at the pool. And, according to Cutler, "Even if you're not lounging poolside or frolicking in the sand, it's suitable for the office or a night on the town." Best of all, it's easy to create. Cutler suggests, "Start with a high-top ponytail that is clean but not slick, allowing some of the texture in the hair to be visible. From the ponytail, twist tightly into a high knot pinning as you get to the base and allowing the ends of the ponytail to poke out. This is to give the appearance of a do-it-yourself, homemade look."
