Jean Paul Gaultier Hits Home

When you think Gaultier, perhaps you envision Marion Cotillard’s mermaid-cut Oscar dress, or Madonna’s oh-so-90’s cone-shaped bra. But a sectional sofa? Doubtful.
The French couturier—known for his edgy tailoring, love of leather, and decidedly high fashion followin—is now bringing that risqué touch to the home. His furnishings collaboration with French interiors firm Roche Bobois centers on a modular couch featuring the designer’s signature tattoo prints, nautical stripes, and portrait of (almost) lip-locked lovers. For Gaultier, the return to interiors (he collaborated with France’s VIA on Roman-style armchairs in 1992) is not much of a jump, as he told the New York Post last week: “For me, life is all about self-expression, whether it’s on your body or in your home.”
