"There's a certain coldness that goes throughout the movie. It's very surgical. It's like you're going to be cut and not even feel it when it's happening, and then look down at your arm and say, 'Oh, my God, I got a scar down there,'" explained Antonio Banderas last night at the Cinema Society screening of Pedro Almodóvar's The Skin I Live In.

In the psychological thriller, Banderas stars as an expert surgeon who goes too far in the name of revenge and recreating lost love. While one of the characters works in a dress shop, the film's relationship to clothing goes much deeper and darker, exploring the realms of beauty and identity.
Several standout costumes in the film are bodysuits made by Jean Paul Gaultier, who has collaborated with Almodóvar before.

"I love the way he plays with gender, in a very playful, childish way, never something dirty or obscure," said the director of his longtime friend. "He's a wonderful couturier, but also he's a moviegoer. Our conversation is full of cinematic references," he said.

While Gaultier didn't make the party, plenty of other fashion folk stopped by to sip Deléon tequila cocktails: Madonna, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Calvin Klein, and Charlotte Ronson, to name a few.
