Last night, at Opening Ceremony's Howard Street flagship, Spike Jonze took questions from friends and fans in support of his new boo,k There Are Many of Us. The book accompanies his most recent short film "I'm Here," which follows the all-for-love narrative of two robots living on the fringe of Los Angeles society and culture. "In making the film," Jonze said, "I really wanted to show the part of LA that's more the county than just the city, the parking lots you end up at with your friends at two am, where the scene is really what you make of it." As promised on the invite, live music was provided by a "bear"–the artist Marcel Dzama in a bear suit–whose light strumming served as background for the Q&A. (He also managed to growl his way through a Bob Dylan cover at Jonzes' request). In keeping with his image as a man of many hats, Jonze answered questions on a wide array of subjects. Though he talked extensively on his recent adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, perhaps the most thought provoking query was what his ideal dinner party would be and what song would be playing. "Maybe David Bowie, maybe Lou Reed... if he was in a really good mood. Maybe Bob Dylan..." He paused in rumination before continuing, "...Would be playing" (cue the bear), "and Humberto's mom could make us some great Chinese appetizers." Opening Ceremony founder Humberto Leon found this pretty amusing, but not quite as much as some of Jackass 3D's upcoming material. "Hey Humberto," Jonze asked him after the line of book signers had dissipated, "what's your favorite bit from the new Jackass?" After a moment he replied: "Poop-Cano."
