PHOTO OF WALT CASSIDY; BY MICHAEL FAZAKERLEY
In our April issue, Christopher Bollen interviewed Michael Alig, the notorious club kid whose excesses and delusions of grandeur drove him to murder. But the club kids weren't all so bad, explains Alig's right-hand man on the club circuit, Walt Cassidy (then: Walt Paper). He sees the decade as the high of an industry that brought together (and significantly, put to work) misfits from around the country–a kind of community-building spectacle. Here, his stories, accompanied by photographs from his personal archive.
