You may have seen Olympia Le-Tan's hand-embroided book clutches in the hands of Natalie Portman or Clémence Poésy at the actresses' respective Black Swan and Harry Potter premieres. While Portman favored Lolita, and Poésy preferred La Belle et La Bête,  Le-Tan has created a whole collection of must-reads-turned-"It" bags. Dracula and The Catcher in the Rye, in fact, caught the attention of Spike Jonze.

"I met Spike through friends two years ago. He saw my embroidery on the books and said he really liked it and wanted to buy or trade some. I said 'Sure, I'll trade you some for a film about them,' kind of kidding. And he said 'Yeah, sure, let's do it,'" explained Le-Tan at the New York premiere of Mourir Auprès de Toi (To Die by Your Side), a film by Spike Jonze, Simon Cahn, and Le-Tan.

Hosted by and held at the Grand Street studio of André, guests noshed on dumplings and watched the romantic short.  Set after-hours at the Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in Paris, two unlikely characters—from the covers of Dracula and Macbeth—come to life and fall in love,  in touching stop motion action.

The appeal of the classic novel as a clutch makes perfect sense. As Clémence Poésy explained at the party, "I like books!" Ask anyone who's ever fallen for a story—they're likely to keep it close at hand, be it on a bookshelf or as a bag, for life.
