Michael Jackson Fans Put to the Test

The only portrait for which Michael Jackson ever sat, a 40" x 50" oil painting called "The Book,” is now available on eBay with a starting bid of $2.75 million. Brett-Livingstone Strong, best known for carving John Wayne’s face into a 116-ton rock in Malibu and creating a life-size statue of John Lennon, originally sold the piece (which also features Tinkerbell) in 1990 for $2.1 million, the most money ever paid to a living artist for a portrait. With only a handful clumsy photos of the painting to go by, it’ll take a real admirer to write a similarly record-breaking check, but if there’s any fanbase that can be trusted to turn out such devotion, it’s Jackson’s.
