Gareth Pugh Tests Color

Known for his wicked-sharp and experimental design, Gareth Pugh may not seem like the most obvious choice for a crossover make-up line. But after partnering with MAC Cosmetics, Pugh said last night at the line's launch, "I couldn't think of anyone else I would want to do with."

At at party at the top of the New Museum to celebrate the duo's collaboration, guests enjoyed drinks and stunning views of the city. But as for the make-up line itself? It remained a mystery. Pugh, known for his monochromatic clothing, said the line would reflect his style. "The emphasis on color isn't the primary focus... a lot of what I do is about opposites." The only teaser offered was Pugh's dark iridescent nail polish.

While known for creating severe black-and-white looks, Pugh says that in the end, everyone's look should be their own. "I think personally I like to see people have fun with what they have."
