LimoLand: Welcome To The Neighborhood

In the market for "streetwear for rich old men?" LimoLand might be just for you. It's how Jean "Johnny" Pigozzi's describes his vibrant, colorful menswear and accessories line, which launched in 2007 and just opened its first store in the Meatpacking District. "I was always interested in amusing clothes," Pigozzi told me. "I never wear very serious suits. I don't have to because I don't go to an office, so it's fine." Very much a man of the world, the Parisian-born Pigozzi travels between several continents, working as a designer, venture capitalist, photographer, and art collector.

Having sold in Colette, Dover Street Market and Land of Tomorrow—why did he decide to open up stateside? "New York is the capital of the world. This is the first store we had and I said, 'Let's do it in New York!' And then I want to do one in Los Angeles, and the next one after that will be in Hong Kong," Pigozzi told me when I asked why he set up shop here.

Dasha Zhukova, Tony Hawk, and Francesco Clemente celebrated inside the store before hopping to Hector's to sip on Casa Dragones tequila. Photographer pal Theo Wenner portrait's of Pigozzi's friends (like Mario Batali, Christian Louboutin, and André Saraiva) wearing the colorful collection flashed on screens around the space.  "It's acrosss the street, they have the best burgers in New York, and I think you should be with your neighorbood and it's fun, you know?" Pigozzi explained.

Everyone was certainly having an entertaining and casual kick at the event. "I love the cheeseburgers!" remarked The Smile's chef Melia Marden, of the diner treats being passed around the party at Hector's.  "And I loved the belly dancer!" said her sister, photographer Mirabelle Marden, before showing me shots of her and the surprise act on her iPhone. If one thing's for sure, LimoLand has certainly made its mark on the neighborhood.

LIMOLAND IS LOCATED AT 829 WASHINGTON STREET.
