Derek Blasberg's Book Club

Derek Blasberg's Classy, the modern girl's etiquette tome, came to life last night at Barney's release party. With guests straight out of the inside party-photo flaps of book—Chloe Sevigny, Byrdie Bell, Julia Roitfeld, Jessica Stam, Leigh Lezark, Jen Brill, Fabiola Beracasa, and Lauren Santo Domingo (to name a few)—it was a
cocktail party for top-tier ladies (not to mention lady-killers: Jamie
Johnson, Waris Ahluwalia). While many books can tell you how to break down a dress code and how to identify a bread plate, few have ventured into the realm of sexting and drunk blogging. "It's a whole new world," Blasberg remarked, of his desire to create a book of lady-like role models when so much media attention is rewards young women with degrading behavior.  Luckily, just as Classy indicateds, being proper doesn't always mean boring, and we went straight to the inspirational sources. A Proenza Schouler-clad Chloe Sevigny offered her top classy tip: "My mother always said never kiss any Tom, Dick or Harry, which I think is good advice." And how about transitioning from an experimental youth into a full-fledge lady? "Even when I was young and alternative and punky, I think I still kept it pretty classy. I think it's more of a state of mind than a way you actually present yourself. Just being a good person and being polite I think is the most classy thing you can be." We'll toast to that.
