The Grammys and the Oscars are officially over, but the fashion world is just getting ready for its own awards ceremony. With Lady Gaga as an honoree and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen as nominees, fashion has gotten a new celebrity boost.
Last night, all the top players in New York fashion world came together for the Council of Fashion Designers of America for its 2011 awards nomination announcements. Hosted at by Nadja Swarovski and CFDA President Diane Von Furstenberg at her studio, this year celebrated the 10th anniversary of Swarovski underwriting the event. Additionally, this was the first time the announcement was live-streamed on Facebook.
We caught up with the city's signature spike jewelry favorite Eddie Borgo, who had just heard his nomination announcement in the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design. "I feel really good. It's thrilling, you know? It's such a unique award because it really shows your support from the community from editors, retailers and people in the industry so I think it's really special," Borgo said.
"I'm really psyched my friend Pamela [Love] is in Swarovski with me, and Alejandro [Ingelmo] and Jason Wu, they're all my really good friends. So that's really cool, to be in a group of people I'm really friendly with. Joseph Altuzzara, I've worked with him and think he's incredibly talented and I'm so excited for him. It's just all around a good group of people. It's unique to New York because, yeah, we're all nominated, but we're all friendly. New York is not as big as it seems. We all know each other and at the gut of it we're all supportive," he continued.
With daylight savings, we'll be seeing a few more hours of sun. Did Borgo have any special jewelry styling tips for spring?
"We do a lot of bracelets, it's a big category for us, and I think it's harder in the wintertime for women to wear them simply because they've got their coats. So I'm excited because when I walk around in the summertime there's nothing more thrilling as a designer to see what you do on somebody walking around. Last summer was really cool, I spotted a few people with the jewelry and that was really exciting."
Warm-weather wardrobe paired with a statement cuff? Now there's a smart tip to turn anybody into a star.
