Where were the supermodels at the Costume Institute Gala? On strike in support of Alaia, or something more ... delicious? Shockingly, Vogue's most important shindig overlapped with the the James Beard Foundation Awards Ceremony nd Gala—better known as the Oscars of food, held annually at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. This year hosts Cat Cora, Emeril Lagasse, and Stanley Tucci honored women in food, although most of the top awards went to men. There was also a serious preference for new York-based restauranteurs: David Chang and Peter Serpico won for Momofuku Ko in the new restaurant category, while destination chef Dan Barber won as the outstanding chef at Blue Hill, beating out Tom Colicchio, among others. But like a fine wine, there were surprises: When Dale De Groff won the award for Spirits, host Cat Cora got so excited she broke the medal.
