Hollywood Holiday: Marley & Me

Staff   12/26/2008 03:55 PM

Yesterday, grinches worldwide nibbled on moo shoo and went to the movies. More Americans went to see Marley & Me than The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, though they had 492 more theaters to choose from. In spite of its Dickensian title, the Jennifer Aniston-/Owen Wilson-vehicle had gone largely under our radar, although this certainly explains that recent media barrage. All the same, viewers by the cage-full watched while 22 dogs portrayed over a decade in the life of the eponymous golden retriever. Aniston and Wilson go relatively untouched by the decade of narration—though Pitt in Benjamin Button certainly has them beat there.

Cont.... it does but really.............it was such a well done story that I got so much more from it than just a plain old dog story. I would watch it again in a heartbeat.

It really kinda bums me out that every single thing that Aniston does has to be compared to Brad Pitt and what he has going on. I know that there films are going to be compared more now than usual becuase they are coming out at the same time but these are two totally different films. Not even close in subject matter. I saw both and I was really impressed with Marely and Me and not so with Benji Button. I don't think that Benji Button comes even close to touching the range of Marley and Me. I was so moved by one over the other. I am a dog lover but even without that, Marlely and Me is a much more poignent and heartlfelt story. I was racked with sorrow at the end of the film. It was so intense at the end of the film that I had to walk away for a minute. I definitely did not feel that way about Pitts film. BB was so slow and didn't deliver the same kind of emotion. I know that it could be looked at like a typical dog story that can make anyone cry when it ends the way that
