Stand Out for Spring

I asked MAC chief makeup artist Gordan Espinet–who painted the faces at Behnaz Sarafpour, DSquared, Blue Girl, Just Cavalli and Vivianne Westwood red for Fashion Week–to give us the goods on spring color trends thus far. (PHOTO BY SARAH HOWARD OF SPRING 2010 JUAN CARLOS OBANDO)

"We've stepped away from luxurious, rich bitch glamazon. It's back to the cool factor from the 70's and 80's. Even with fashion, you question whether something is new or vintage," says Gordan. The same applies to the season's overall makeup look. "Spring is about the amount of makeup you put on, and not looking overly made up or groomed. It's about having an element. Whether a shocking eye liner, a bright lip, a defined brow, or an obvious lash–it will be about having a face that is memorable because of one outstanding element, not a face of makeup."

He added, "Overall, so far there is a definite stray from looking overly glamorous and overly elegant, with perfect sexy eyes and defined lips. Now, it's an early 80's punk rock girl, where all they had was a black liner and they used it for everything, from eyes, brows–even lips."
