Yohji Yamamoto proposes that we all look like urban warriors/athletes vaguely—but not menacingly—from the future, and be at ease doing it. From this collection, showed as usual at sports complex Pier 40, stand-outs included crisp little jackets, like a cropped women's toggle coat, jodphur-like pants, super-sparkly sequined sneakers, and some kind of man-skirt with the trademark tri-stripe worked in. A gaggle of kids adorably advertised a new children's line, populating the runway at different points and accompanying Mr. Yamamoto himself for a rare appearance at the end. It was reassuring to see the designer in person after hearing the news a few weeks ago that he's closing his beloved New York store and press office due to our sour economy.
