Queen V

Miguel Enamorado  05/07/2009 04:48 PM

I didn't have to go to Buckingham Palace for an audience with the paparazzi Queen of England. Instead I found myself on the sixth floor of Macy's lingerie department waiting to meet Victoria Beckham. Posh was gracing a less than posh locale with her presence to unveil her new ad for Emporio Armani underwear. Thankfully I skipped to the front of the line; there was quite the turn out. Once I was cleared by MI6 style security (I had to hand over my YSL bag and my sunglasses; I had to remove my hat and was asked if I had a camera phone in my possession).

Then it was my turn. Posh looked chic in this slight Rhythm Nation beaded epaulet blazer and crystal tights—from Emporio Armani, natch. I was ushered in and I introduced myself. Posh was polite and sweet; she automatically fell into the Victoria photo pose—hip out, one leg forward, head tilt. And before it began it was all over. And I was left with my new Christmas card.

Storefront: Etiqueta Negra

Miguel Enamorado  04/22/2009 11:56 AM

Like a Johnny Walker on the rocks, Etiqueta Negra's new SoHo boutique has a smooth, warm masculine sensibility, and the name translates to Black Label. The latest South American import to the New York retail scene (following, most recently, Osklen) is the first international venture by Polo player and car aficionado Federico Alvarez Castillo. His car collection rotates among the 12 stores, and a 1938 cherry red Alfa Romeo is currently parked in the New York location, quite prominently.

I first discovered Etiqueta Negra on a trip to Buenos Aires, which is a city where a men's wardrobe, consists of an ironed dress shirt, a T-shirt for layering, good jeans (they've already good genes), a dress shoe during the week and a driving shoe for weekends in the Mendoza or trips to Punta del Este. This sensibility is as Argentine as the imported wooden planks used to decorate the SoHo store or the Argentine leathers on the racks. What you also get are modern basics with a slim, Argentine/European fit that build timeless wardrobes.

Test Drive: Clarisonic Plus Skin Care System

Miguel Enamorado  04/17/2009 03:24 PM

Oprah Winfrey and I are members of the same club, and it's not just her book club. It's the Clearsonic Brush addicts club, for people like us whose faces get a lot of attention. Recently, after almost five years of excellent service, my well-loved Clearsonic face brush went to beauty product heaven. Seeing as I needed a fresh face for my business trip the next day, I walked into a Sephora and found that my old friend had had some upgrades since I last purchased it. Now there's a version with a brush head in tended for a full-body experience. The new version is also considerably lighter, has three speeds, and an international charging cradle—perfect, as I was heading for Zurich, although I didn't need it because the battery lasts a week when fully charged.

Imagine that every morning after the shower (it's waterproof) your skin feels as if you just came from a fabulous facial, or going to bed knowing you've cleansed your skin of city living. The revolutionary sonic frequency moves Clarisonic's soft, gentle brush back and forth at more than 300 times per second. Try doing that with your hands.

Runway Traffic: Danny Schwarz

Miguel Enamorado  04/16/2009 01:21 PM

Launch Mediaplayer »

In the last year, newcomer Danny Schwarz has strongarmed geeky, skinny adolescents off the runway, and replaced them with a physique unseen since the 90s heyday of male supermodels. His masculine, chiseled looks have taken him from the London DJ scene to the intersection of Houston and Lafayette in New York, stopping traffic with his buff torso in the new Calvin Klein Jeans billboard shot by Steven Meisel. It's a feat that puts him in the company of Kate Moss, Brooke Shields and Mark Wahlberg. Now that he has conquered the runways of New York, Milan, and Paris, what will get between him and his Calvins?

Here are some of those things:

Name: Danny Schwarz
Agency: VNY Model Management
Birth date: 01/28/1986
Hometown: South London, England

Shows walked: This past Fall Winter shows in New York I walked in a few shows including Tommy Hilfiger, Zegna, Y3, Rag & Bone. In Milan I did Dolce & Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, Armani, Versace, and Givenchy direct booking in Paris.

Beauty Beat: Under the Tuscan Sun

What's that luxurious fragrance?

Trying desperately to rid myself of winter blues I imagine an olfactory vacation. I find myself in Italy, touring the Riviera port by port, the effervescent Mediterranean Sea as my backdrop. Sampling the bevy of Italian-inspired fragrances inspired by the scents, the food, not to mention the romance of the place, I discover that this season designers have made Mediterranean chameleons of women. Watch out, Mr. Ripley.

My first stop is Christian Dior's new fragrance for women, Escale a Portofino, which was the original Mr. Dior's favorite little port. What comes in the bottle is a rustling breeze of fragrant Italian citrus notes, to transport the wearer each year to a different location. Next stop, India, via the newly launched Escale a Pondichery. Though it's not available until next year, it's always best to plan your travels in advance. Available internationally in May.
