In August, artist K8 Hardy took over Printed Matter bookstore in the midst of its annual T-shirt day—stripping, trying on T-shirts, wigs, and underwear, and engaging and accosting customers. The result is the latest in the artist's Fashionfashion zine series (she's made four small-format publications previously, and oversized editions); this is the first sponsored by Printed Matter. These anonymous, voyeuristic photographs are collaged into Hardy's handwritten recollections, and echo Hardy's critique of dour, lifeless models.
Forget Barneys' record-breaking recession sales. For any gender-conscious fashion victim, the publication is available for just $7.
