Olé: Illustrations by Happy Menocal

Illustrator Happy Menocal's sketchbook is full of wry, colorful studies of everything from peacocks ("Fashion Week") to wigs ("Hairs") to fancy cheese ("Diet Coke Pairings").  She'll even create a custom portrait of your pet. Her website has something for everyone–a particularly appealing quality with Christmas only a week away. For the especially time-pressed or decision-averse, we have compiled a slideshow of her new matador paintings. Her inspiration for the series? "The matador represents the kind of guy I am attracted to: flamboyant, cool, destructive. I also identify with the matador: all the time I spend suiting up in spangles and making absurd gestures, only to be gored in a big dirt pit. But there are also triumphs! I am of course troubled–horrified–by the fact that the bull has not consented to the ritual." Certainly you know someone who can relate to that.
